How to Balance Your Chakras

Materials Needed:

  • Two glasses of water
  • A pendulum either in copper or made from a natural stone (do not use glass)
  • Chair (in case you’d like to sit)

IMPORTANT: Drink a full glass of water before AND after. Water helps to clear spiritual toxins from our energy bodies without the process causing undesired side effects like headache, dizziness, nausea or mood swings.
chakras pixabayAsk your angels & guides to work through your pendulum. Inform them you intend for the energy to balance, clear & heal your chakras.
First, figure out the health of your chakras.
Depending on what is YES and what is NO for you & your pendulum, a YES swing means the chakra is fine, NO means it’s out of balance or perhaps even blocked. Size & speed of the swing or rotation will denote the severity of a block or imbalance.
Do this for all 7 main chakras from ROOT to CROWN, so from the base to the top.
Once you know where the imbalances are, you balance your chakras from CROWN to ROOT.
Just hold the pendulum up over your crown until it begins to move (this can cause your arm to hurt if it takes a while). It will most likely begin to swing in a NO direction if there’s an imbalance. Wait for it to stop swinging. It will stop. If the chakra is healthy, the pendulum will swing in a YES direction. It will keep swinging in an ever widening arch or circle as the energy works to further balance the chakra.
pendulum pixabyThe pendulum will arch or swing in a YES direction if a chakra is already healthy. All it to complete its swing. It will stop at some point, but don’t force it to stop because it is sending further balancing energy into that chakra.
If the pendulum moves in a NO direction, you may with your free hand stop the swing. Once you have done that, ask your angels and guides to balance and heal that chakra. Allow your pendulum to start swinging.
In MOST cases it will kind of jiggle in place for a few seconds before it slowly begins to move in a YES direction. As it sends more healing energy into the chakra the YES movement will become more pronounced.
Allow your pendulum to do the work. Do NOT stop the movement. Allow the movement to continue until it stops on its own. Once it has stopped you will know that chakra is now cleared and balanced. Then move on to the next chakra until you have completed all 7 of the major chakras.
We have chakras in every joint in our bodies and all organs possess chakras as well. If you’d like to give yourself a nice overall  healing also focus on the chakras within the palms of your hands, your fingers,  elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, heels, soles of your feet and toes.
When you’re finished, give thanks & drink another glass of water.
That’s all there is to it.
It is also a good idea if you do this in the future to purchase a pendulum that will only be for your chakras. Be sure it is made from either copper, which is an excellent conductor of energy, or some natural stone.
My favorite choices for the stone are amethyst (associated with the crown chakra), lapis lazuli (associated with the third eye chakra), and aventurine (associated with the heart chakra). It is best to choose a stone that is known to be associated with one of the seven main chakras.

Until next time, wishing you & yours many blessings!

How to Easily Manifest Your Wishes

There is great magical power in simplicity ~ David Bowie, in a dream of mine from 1978.

spell-candleIn other words, the simpler you can keep your magical practice, the better. You don’t need fancy chalices, athames, candles in every color of the spectrum, or the most expensive herbs & oils in order to effectively practice magic. Oftentimes, the simplest and least expensive of tools are the most effect.

Here is a case in point.

Two months ago I began a little magical experiment. I often carry out these experiments as I attempt to find other methods & practices that will end up working well for me by helping me to obtain the results I desire as quickly and simply as possible. Over the years it has been my experimentation that has evolved my eclectic Wiccan magical and spiritual practice into what it is today.

I use positive affirmations daily. One I use often as a business owner is:

I am a successful business owner with my services & art in high demand.

This has worked okay for me. I won’t say results have been fantastic because my results from using ONLY this affirmation have not met my expectations or needs, but it was a very good start.

I decided to branch out and create a daily morning ritual for myself that basically sets up my entire day and helps me to be as successful as I can be each day. It’s very simple and requires the following:

  • a cup of coffee or your favorite warm beverage: warm because warm liquids cup-of-coffeeconvey energy more effectively than cold liquids & a cold drink WILL NOT WORK,
  • a sharp knife, preferably a non-serrated steak or butcher knife whose blade can fit inside the size cup you use,
  • your focus and concentration,
  • a positive attitude fueled by positive expectations

Notice that you won’t have to make a special trip to any store in order to purchase any of the materials for this little ritual. Not only is it simple and quick to perform, it’s also cheap! Win-win!

The first thing to do is to create a list of several things you wish to attract into your life. These can be wishes that you hope will one day manifest. Your wish list should be as specific as you can make it. Don’t just wish for a “new car.” Wish for a “new car that is: blue, with a gray interior, with excellent millage, is a comfortable ride for long distances, & is always reliable.” This was a spell from 2009. It resulted in a Subaru Forester that meets all of the above specifications. I always tell my Wicca students “the more specific you are, the more successful you will be in manifesting your wishes.”

So far for this little ritual  I have experimented with 3 – 7 wishes. I have not attempted more than 7 as I intuitively feel that would diffuse the energy too much causing the ritual to become ineffective.

Once you have created your wish list consider who you will ask for help in your endeavor. I highly recommend you call on some form of a higher power. This can be God, Jesus, some pagan deity – it doesn’t matter. What is most important is that you have faith that this form of a higher power can actually help you to manifest your desires.

Once you know upon whom you will call for help it’s time to formulate a simple statement that will encompass your wishes. You create your statement by first calling on your higher power for help, then you enumerate your wishes one after the other. You continue by expressing gratitude to your higher power for granting your wishes. You conclude your little ritual by stating that these wishes are now manifest in your life. They are your reality.

Here is the statement that I use. It varies as I focus on manifesting different things in my life. I also focus on clearing the lack in my life of those things for which I wish.  By focusing on banishing the lack of what I hope to manifest I am conversely attracting to me what I desire while at the SAME TIME blocks are being removed that may have been preventing these wishes from manifesting in my life. I do not need to be consciously aware of actual blocks, but my goddess will be aware and She can work on clearing them for me.

Have your cup of coffee prepared by adding whatever you like in your coffee (or not, your choice), but DO NOT stir it yet. As you vocalize your statement slowly stir your coffee with the knife counterclockwise. This is the direction of banishing in magic. Here, I am focusing upon banishing or removing the lack of what I desire in my life.

My statement is as follows ~

Great Mother Goddess Isis, through Whom all things are possible & nothing is impossible, I ask as I stir with my knife that you remove all lack of financial abundance & prosperity from my life. As I stir with my knife I ask that you remove all lack of healing & good health from my life. As I stir with my knife I ask that you remove all lack of love, happiness, & harmony from my life. Through you, Mighty Isis, all things are possible. Through you, Mighty Isis, nothing is impossible. I thank you for all the blessings you have brought to my family & I and all the blessings yet to come. Thank you for making my wishes manifest in my life. In your holy & most powerful name, Mother Isis, so mote it be. AMEN.

Notice that I use the word “lack” prior to stating what I wish to manifest in my life. I am banishing the lack of the manifestation of specific wishes & desires. Therefore, I stir my coffee counterclockwise with my knife as I envision the knife cutting the lack of what I desire from my life. The knife is metaphorically cutting blockages, obstacles, and whatever else may be working against you or standing in your way. This is why it’s important to use a knife and not a spoon for this ritual.

Next, you visualize yourself enjoying the wishes as they manifest in your life while you enjoy your cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. The beverage can be of any type as long as it’s hot.

drinking-coffeeAs I take that first sip of coffee I see myself being financially prosperous. I take a second sip as I see myself healed and in good health. As I take a third sip I see myself living a life filled with love, harmony, & happiness with my husband & daughter. I then rotate back to my first wish with the fourth sip, and on until I finish my cup of coffee.

Be sure as you take the first few sips of your beverage that you see yourself having what it is you desire. Go right down your list item by item. See yourself enjoying each wish as it manifests in your life and feel the emotions that it would bring up in you if that desire actually was made manifest in your life.

Be sure you use one sip for each specific item on your wish list. As you conclude your wish list go back to the first wish with the next sip and then work your way down your wish list a second time, and continue to do so until you have finished your drink.

I do feel that the more things you wish for then the weaker the energy becomes. I actually do try to keep it to 3 – 4 wishes, but I have focused on as many as 7, but I do think that’s a bit too much. Perhaps focus on 5 wishes at the most until you become more proficient at performing this little ritual and you start to see real changes in your life.

Always remember to express thanks at the conclusion of your wish list. As you finish your beverage also offer up gratitude again, then simply go about your day knowing and having faith that your wishes will find a way to manifest in your life.

As for me, I have been performing this simple little ritual every morning with my cup of coffee for about two months now. As a result of this ritual I have seen an increase not only in the income I gain through my online business, but my husband’s business has really picked up as well. I have also been able to easily fight off what was probably attempting to turn into a sinus infection & I have beaten two sore throats within 24 hours without having any additional symptoms. My family has been severely stressed for a long time due to my husband losing his job in October, 2015 and starting a new business in March, 2016. Now we are back to laughing & joking constantly like we did when my husband was still a banker. We are all much happier and are living more harmonious lives with one another.

All in all, I can honestly say this simple ritual has worked real wonders in my life; and, I sincerely hope that it works as well for you as it has for me.

Wishing you many blessings!

How to Spiritually Cleanse Your Home

I received proof today that a spiritual house cleansing is a tangible thing that even a nonbeliever can sense once it has been carried out, but more on that later. I live in Houston and after a very brief, but intense winter cold snap temps are now back up to the high 70’s so I decided to open all the windows today to enjoy the breeze. Since it had been a while I decided to carry out a major house cleansing. I figured that as last year was so yucky for so many of us (myself included!) that you may be interested in learning my method of spiritual house cleansing so you can rid yourself of all that nasty energy from last year and start 2017 with an energetic clean slate.

A thorough cleansing of a home or business consists of opening every closet, cabinet, incense-335647_640drawer, cubby, the attic, garage, & the perimeter of the property. I arm myself with a lighter & a box of my current favorite stick incense or the old standby, which is frankincense & myrrh. As I walk through the property I make sure the incense smoke visibly reaches all areas, especially corners of the ceiling where negative energy can remain trapped. Negative energy can also hide in drawers, closets, under the beds, and so on, which is why it’s important to open all those areas up & be sure to waft some incense into each spot. It is also very important to leave a window cracked open in EACH room. This gives the negative energy an easy escape route.

Materials you need are simple: a lighter and either frankincense & myrrh or your favorite scent of incense. Now, if you are experiencing paranormal activity in your home use the frankincense & incense. This is used by the Catholic Church prior to every Mass so if it’s good enough for them … plus, negative entities do not like the smell. Sometimes the smell alone can be enough to drive them away. This is due the very high frequency of frankincense & myrrh when used in combination.

Once you have opened all closets, drawers, and so on start at either the front door or the entry to the building you use the most. Open the door & in your own words invite the negative energy to leave. Close the door and commence with the spiritual cleansing.

Visualize a bird’s eye view of the property and impose upon that the face of a clock. Your front door will be at 6:00. Any  back door to the property will be at approximately 12:00 (or 11, or 1, depending on  the location of the back door in relation to the front door). The midway point of the left-hand side of your house (as you stand at the front door facing inward) will be at 9:00. The midway point of the right-hand side of your house will be at 3:00.

It is VERY important when carrying out a cleansing that you constantly work your way counterclockwise through the building. This direction holds true for the entire building as well as each individual room & closet. In this way you shall start at the door you use the most and move to your right. So as you make your way through the building you are constantly moving to the rooms on your right as you work your way around until you are back at your front door. So you are moving from 6:00 to 3:00 to 12:00 to 9:00 and you then complete the circuit back at 6:00.

If you have more than 1-story/floor to deal with, start at the very top. For my home, this is the attic. I actually climb the rickety ladder that leads up to it & waft the incense around. I begin in the far right corner and move on to the front right corner, then the front left corner, and back to the spot where our attic door is located, which is the rear left-corner. I allow the incense smoke to float on up to the rafters in all four corners as I say prayers to Archangel Michael asking him to conduct any negative energies out of our home and into the light. Should you wish to pray to him, I include his prayer at the end of this post. You can also google “prayers to Saint Michael” and quite a few will come up so you can choose the one with which you resonate the best.

As you begin at the top of the building work your way down always keeping in mind you must be moving constantly counterclockwise so you will be moving always to your right. You enter each room as it comes up to your right, cleanse each room beginning in the right-hand corner nearest the point at which you entered the room, moving counterclockwise from the right-hand corner nearest the door to the right-hand corner furthest from the door, then on over to the left-hand corner furthest from the door and finally to the left-hand corner nearest the door. Then you leave the room.

If you like, when I leave a room I have just cleansed I seal the room. I will wave the incense in the door and make the shape of the Ankh. Sometimes I will use the Pentagram and place the Ankh within it. This is a personal preference of mine that you are not required to do in order for your own house cleansing to be successful.

Once you are done with one floor, continue on with the floor below until you have reached the first floor. Carry out the cleansing on the first floor in the same manner you cleansed the upper floor(s), but as you begin and end at your front door or the door you use the most, open the door at the end of the cleansing and COMMAND all negative energy to leave & tell it that it does NOT have your permission to ever return. Do this in your own words. Then step outside and with the incense walk the perimeter of your property counterclockwise as well while praying to Archangel Michael or whatever aspect of higher power you call upon for help with your spiritual cleansing. End once again at your front door.

lida-835610_640This final bit is of crucial importance so NEVER omit it! As you open your door to enter your newly cleansed home or business with the door STILL OPEN say in your own words that you invite in the positive forces of the universe. You should mention angels, spirit guides, protective ancestors, aspects of Deity, and any other spiritual beings you would like to take up residence in your home. Also ask them to keep all negative energy out of your home and away from your property.

Your spiritual cleansing is now complete. As for that proof that spiritually cleansing your home really works, my husband is a born again Southern Baptist. He is also a Virgo. And a former banker! I know, I know. Why, oh why did I ever marry him? I married him because he is a good man, can handle money well while I cannot, & he has the ability to make me laugh everyday. It is not easy to make me laugh. That alone scored him major brownie points while we were dating.

I cleansed our home today while my husband was out meeting with prospective clients for his business. He left the banking industry and now runs his own business providing in-home non-medical care for the elderly. I knew he would be gone a few hours, which gave me enough time to conduct a thorough cleansing. I finished about 3 hours before he got home and with all the windows open there was no residual scent of incense in our home by the time he arrived.

He walked in the house and began telling me about his day, then he stopped not three minutes into the conversation in mid-sentence and said, “Oh, wow! It sure was a great idea to open some windows today. The house feels so light & airy. In fact, it just feels really GOOD in here. Did you do something? You know, something witchy?”

For a non-believer my husband is quite intuitive and he can pick up on energies, little does he realize himself. I merely smiled and said, “I gave the house a thorough spiritual cleansing today & invited the angels to come in to play.”

He laughed and replied, “as long as it’s NOT fairies. Those guys hide my car keys on me!” Which is a whole other story …

Blessings on your New Year,

How to Perform a Spell: Supermoon 8/29/15

Supermoon!!! Saturday, August 29, 2015.

IMG_7883-1This is the main reason for today’s post.

The Supermoon (all one word) occurs when the moon is the closest to the earth in its orbit. Last year we had three Supermoons. As the moon is closest to the earth tides react more strongly along with our emotions. Emotions usually start to run high as long as one week prior to the Supermoon so if people around you have been acting a bit, well, crazy-nutso, now you know why. It will all blow over by September 1st as the last of the Supermoon’s energy wears off.

How you can best take advantage of the Supermoon is to light a candle for yourself. The Supermoon is also the full moon so that part of the lunar cycle can be used for any purpose. Just be sure to include only one purpose per candle. You can light multiple candles for yourself, if you wish.

The main things people are interested in manifesting for themselves or improving are:

  • Love and relationships of all kinds
  • career, and finances
  • Health
  • Spiritual growth
  • Banishing

Here are some basic tips on candle magic and then I’ll cover ideas you can use for each of the aforementioned magical desires.

First thing you do with a candle is you have to cleanse it. You don’t know what sort of vibes or energy it picked up in its manufacturing process, shipping, or while on the shelf of the store in which you purchased it.

You simply cleanse a candle by rubbing from the middle out to both ends; and, don’t forget to include the wick. Imagine gray or black smoke leaving the candle. The candle will grow warm due to the heat of your hands, but you may feel the candle grow lighter in weight. This is because you’re removing excess energy.

Once you feel the candle is cleansed (use your intuition!) it’s ready to be charged, but before that, be sure you have gathered all the supplies you intend to use. You never want to be in a position where you’ve calling on Deity and realize you forgot to set aside the herbs you want to use with your candle. Gather all materials, and the you’re ready to charge and use your candle.

Charging a candle is the opposite of cleansing it. Focus on what you wish to manifest. Let’s say you hope for a new and better job. You can focus on the thought, “A new and better job than the one I have now comes to me in the perfect time.” Keep that thought in mind as you rub your candle from either end toward the middle. Again, don’t forget to include the wick and imagine your desire entering the candle and moving down the length of the wick. This way as the candle burns and the wick and wax are consumed that will release your wish out into the universe.

Note: if your intention is to cleanse or banish something out of your life when you charge your candle you do so in the same direction you used to cleanse it. You imagine your intention leaving the candle, beginning at the middle and working out to either end, including the wick.

If your mind wanders at any time during the process, don’t worry. Just bring your thoughts back to the task at hand. If you have never performed candle magic before and you do not practice meditation it’s perfectly normal for your mind to wander. Don’t give up. Just refocus on your wish and keep going.

Once you feel your intention has been set into your candle it’s time to use it.

Items you will want to have on-hand for candle magic are as follows. You can include all or just some of these items. That’s up to you.

  • Paper plate (a MUST if you are using oils and/or herbs)
  • Either olive oil or an oil specific to your magical intention
  • Herbs specific to your magical intention
  • Favorite crystals or stones as an item to focus on (totally optional)
  • Incense for atmosphere (totally optional)

If you are placing herbs onto your candle, but you don’t have any scented oil on hand that matches your magical intention, use olive oil. Olive oil is excellent at absorbing energy. Put a bit in a small dish or bottle and hold it in your hands. Focus on your intention and “see” your intention enter the oil. Your olive oil is now charged for your magical purpose.

In order to place herbs on your candle, first with your fingers rub the oil into the candle the same way you charged the candle. Start from the bottom and rub the oil up to the middle, then go to the top of the candle and rub the oil from the top to the middle. I do NOT recommend you place any oil on the wick. That can cause a huge flaring flame when you first light the candle and those can be dangerous. You don’t want to singe your eyebrows!

If you are using herbs your candle is now ready to be coated in herbs. Simply sprinkle the herbal mixture onto the paper plate. Hold both your hands palms downward over the herbs with your fingers together as though you’re wearing mittens. Focus on your magical intention again and visualize it entering the herbs. The herbs are now charged for magical use for your particular intention.

Lay the oil-coated candle on its side onto the area of the paper plate closest to you and slowly roll it TOWARD you across the paper plate if your intention is to manifest something into your life or bring something to you. If you are focusing on getting rid of something (banishing), then place the candle on the side of the paper plate nearest you and roll it away from you.

Once some of the herbs have adhered to the candle’s surface it’s ready to be focused upon and lit. You do not have to get all the herbs to stick to the candle. Just some is fine. If there are empty patches on your candle, don’t worry. The important thing is that at least a few crumbs of each herb you used are somewhere on your candle.

Always be sure you have a candle holder appropriate for the size of candle you are using and burn it in a safe place away from drafts, small children and animals who might knock it over. Sparks can fly off of candles burned for magical intentions and they can be large sparks so also be sure your candle is far from curtains, books, papers, and other highly flammable objects.

Focus on your intention, repeat it either in your mind or out loud 9 times, also remember to call on whatever aspect of Deity you wish to work with, then light the candle. Thank deitiy and know that your intention is going out to the universe and that when the time is right the universe will manifest your intention into your reality.

The final step is very important. Just LET IT GO. Forget about your spell. Don’t dwell on it. Don’t wonder if and when it’s going to work. Trust in the universal forces you called upon to know when the time is right for you and go about your life. Those who dwell on spell work and wonder if it’s working or if it will work at all are introducing doubt into the equation, and that is the last thing you want because doubt will undermine all your work and your desired result may never manifest. Also, be careful if you tell anyone about what you’ve done. Many are not as open-minded as you are and they will also doubt you, perhaps even ridicule you; and, this can cause your spell to fail. So let it go and trust that your desire will manifest at the time and in a way that is for your highest good.

You may be wondering what herbs or oils you should use. I’m including a brief and simple list of supplies that most of you can easily find in your kitchen for the herbs. I’m also including the most popularly used oils for each type of magical intention. Again, oils are extra and not 100% necessary, but they do add a nice touch.

Note: herbs can be fresh or dried. Personally, I find it easier to work with dried herbs, but the choice is yours.

  • Love and relationships of all kinds
    • Herbs: rose petals, cinnamon, basil, nutmeg
    • Oils: rose, jasmine, patchouli
  • career, and finances
    • Herbs: basil, cloves (whole or crushed), cinnamon
    • Oils: frankincense & myrrh (this comes as a blend & you can also find them individually), Abundance oil (available as a blend from many retailers)
  • Health
    • Herbs: rosemary, bay leaves (whole or crushed, but if placing them on a candle be sure to crush them first), garlic (to drive illness out of the body)
    • Oils: rose, rosemary, bay
  • Spiritual growth
    • Herbs: frankincense (in the form of a resin) & myrrh (raw form is in bits of twig & bark), white rose petals, jasmine
    • Oils: frankincense & myrrh blend, sandalwood
  • Banishing
    • Herbs: garlic, black pepper, salt (though not an herb, it really works), bay leaves (whole or crushed), rosemary, dragon’s blood resin (this can be found in powdered or resin form)
    • Oils: frankincense & myrrh, rose, vetivert, dragon’s blood

Remember, the Supermoon is THIS Saturday, so you don’t have much time. Supermoon energy lasts for 1 week prior and 1 week after the actual date of the Supermoon so if you miss out on Saturday you still have varying degrees of energy to work with over the coming week, but the moon will be waning, so focus on removing obstacles to the things you wish to manifest and perform your spell as if it were a banishing. You will be focused on banishing the obstacles from your life that stand between you and your desires if you perform this spell after the actual date of the Supermoon.

Most of all have fun with this. Shoot me an email or post to my timeline on Facebook or tweet at me as to what you did and how you think it went. I’d love to hear from you!

Wishing you many blessings!

How to Choose a Tarot Deck.

If you do not currently own a Tarot deck, here’s my advice on how to purchase one. The main criteria is that the imagery of the deck appeals to you. You will be viewing that deck fairly often so you’re going to want to get a deck you find to be pleasing to your eye. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and these days there are hundreds of decks to choose from, so where do you start?

If you’re relatively new to Tarot I would recommend that you begin with a deck for which all the pips are fully illustrated with scenes. The pips are the minor arcana – the four suits (Wands, Cups, Swords & Pentacles) and their cards, Ace – King. Some decks only represent the pips numerically. For instance, the 2 of Cups will be just that, a picture of 2 cups. The 6 of Pentacles will be simply a picture of six pentacles, and so on. When the pips are fully illustrated the cards are depicted scenically.

The 3 of Cups from "The Illuminated Starlight Tarot," by Carol Herzer.
The 3 of Cups from “The Illuminated Starlight Tarot,” by Carol Herzer.

A good example of this is the 3 of Cups, here from The Rider Waite Smith (known as the RWS) deck. This one has been painted by artist Carol Herzer.  Here we have three woman holding their cups aloft as they celebrate something. The 3 of Cups represents having a reason to celebrate. It can also indicate having a good time with friends.  You see that idea depicted here through the symbols used for the card. This is what I mean by a fully illustrated pip card. For someone who is new to Tarot it is crucial your first few decks have fully illustrated pips. This will make the flow and narrative of your readings much easier to follow and comprehend.

There are many decks that contain fully illustrated pips. As a Tarot instructor, over the years I have recommended several decks to my students that are in various styles, but they have one thing in common. All the pips are illustrated.

Firstly, I would recommend any version of the Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) Tarot. You can google the title and then click on “images” to view various styles of this deck.

My second suggestion is The Robin Wood Tarot.

The 3 of Wands, 4 of Swords & Knight of Cups from The Robin Wood Tarot.
The 3 of Wands, 4 of Swords & Knight of Cups from The Robin Wood Tarot.

Done in the RWS style, Robin Wood’s depiction of the pips, as well as the major arcana, is very straightforward and simple to understand. Many times while using this deck with clients they can glance down at the table and know immediately how the reading will turn out based upon the images on the cards, yet they know nothing of Tarot. I highly recommend The Robin Wood Tarot for beginners. Plus, it’s a lovely deck that has a pagan feel to it.

The 8 of Swords, 4 of Pentacles & 3 of Swords from The Hanson-Roberts Tarot.
The 8 of Swords, 4 of Pentacles & 3 of Swords from The Hanson-Roberts Tarot.

Another nice deck to start with, especially for those of you with smaller hands, is the Hanson-Roberts Tarot. These cards are playing-card size so they are easier to shuffle and larger readings will take up less room on your table. The artwork is done in colored pencil and is lovely and done in the RWS tradition.

If you like computer graphic art, I also recommend any Tarot deck by the artist

The 3 of Wands, 2 of Swords & 6 of Coins from The Tarot of Dreams by Ciro Marchetti.
The 3 of Wands, 2 of Swords & 6 of Coins from The Tarot of Dreams by Ciro Marchetti.

Ciro Marchetti. I own all his decks & must say he is among my all-time favorite Tarot artists. I especially like his Legacy of the Divine deck, as well as his Tarot of Dreams, which is my personal favorite.

Lisa Hunt is another Tarot artist I highly admire & find inspiring for my own artistic endeavors. She has a number of decks in print and you can search

her at Amazon to find a list there. My all-time favorite of hers is The Celtic Dragon Tarot, which I believe has just entered its 14th printing, if I’m not mistaken. This was the first non-RWS deck I purchased back in 1999 and I must say after using only the RWS for nearly 20 years, The Celtic Dragon Tarot introduced me to a whole new world of decks not strictly done in the RWS tradition. Lisa Hunt depicts each card with a dragon and lovely Celtic scenery all done in watercolor.

A good website to visit in order to see at least six images from every card deck is Aeclectic Tarot at http://www.aeclectic.net/. They also include deck reviews and here you can make an informed decision as to which deck to purchase.  Purchase links are also included.

My main tips for choosing a Tarot deck are:

  • The pips should be fully illustrated scenes if you’re a beginner.
  • The artwork should be pleasing to your eye.
  • There are many themes of decks available now so choose a theme that interests you.

It can be daunting to sift your way through the hundreds of Tarot decks available these days. Take your time and I’m sure you will end up with the deck that is perfect for you.

Wishing You Many Blessings,

How to Activate Your Third Eye Chakra

Special thanks to Darcy for sending me a question on Facebook that inspired this post.

I get asked all sorts of questions all the time & here is one I think many of you have so I am sharing my response to Darcy.

Clear Quartz Crystal. What do you do if you wish to be more intuitive?  Darcy realized it’s important to activate & balance your Third Eye chakra, but she wondered how she could do it ? There’s a very simple method and all you need is a clear quartz crystal.  Size doesn’t matter, just be sure 1 end of it terminates in a point.

First you’ll have to cleanse it. I do this by putting the crystal in a bowl of spring or filtered water with a teaspoon of salt mixed in & leave it under the moon over night.

Next, it is ready to be charged. Give the water to the earth, then rinse the bowl & place in it only spring or filtered water, no salt this time. Place the crystal in the bowl of water & set it out in the sun all day long.  Your crystal is now cleansed & charged, ready to use.

Next, you need to set your intention for your crystal. You hold it up to your Third Eye, point facing upward toward the top of your head & state your intention SEVEN times & be SURE your intention is worded the same EACH TIME.  You may wish to write down your intention first.

Something like, “In the Name of All That is Good (or, in the Name of ______ <insert name of God/dess>), I charge this crystal to help open & balance my Third Eye chakra.”

Repeat 7 times, then your crystal is ready to be used. You can keep it on you in a pocket or purse, or keep it by your bedside table at night (warning: quartz can keep you up at night, just FYI), or in a sacred place in your home. Everyday hold the crystal up to your third eye & repeat your intention 7 times to help open & balance your third eye.

A quartz crystal is the only kind that can hold up to 3 unrelated intentions, so you can use it for other things like protection, love, prosperity, whatever. You can charge it up to 3 intentions the same way as above, except leave out the moon cleansing & sun charging since it only needs to be done once.

Should your crystal seem to stop working for you, or if it cracks or grows discolored, Amethyst stone with chevronbefore buying a new one, try the lunar cleanse & solar charging again. If that won’t work then the crystal has served its purpose and it’s time to buy a new one & return that one to the earth from whence it came.

ImageOther crystals good for third eye are: Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, & Fluorite (purple), also Sodalite.  Azurite is particularly good (but can be hard to find & kind of expensive, if you can find it, get it tumbled as it’s so pretty tumbled), & any other purple or dark blue stone.

There are particular crystals & stones associated with each chakra. If you wish to combine stones & crystals with your chakra work there is plenty of information online.  Remember, Google is your best friend 🙂

NOTE:  WordPress is now showing ads at the bottom of my blog. I do NOT endorse any of these ads or approve of this change.  They are doing this because I am not paying their crazy fee to go ad-free for $30/year.  If they would work out all the problems I encounter every time I attempt to post anything I would be happy to pay that fee, but for now looks like ads will be inflicted upon you all & I do apologize.  Should anyone wish to donate a contribution so I can upgrade my blog to WordPress’s premium service, which would then be free of ads as well, please send a donation to me using PayPal.  We’ve had car problems, doctor’s visits, & I’m so strapped right now it’s not even funny or I’d just say be done with it & upgrade immediately.  My PayPal payment address is:  IsisRaAnpu@gmail.com & thank you to anyone in advance for your kind contribution.  Here is what you receive if you donate to my blog so I can upgrade:

  • $5 – a tea light enchantment with the intention of your choice.
  • $10 – a 3-card Lenormand reading on any subject, except health. Sorry, I do not do health readings for ethical reasons.
  • $20 – a votive enchantment with the intention of your choice.

Each person who contributes will also be thanked publicly at my blog unless they wish to remain anonymous.  Again, I apologize for the WordPress ads.

Lastly, when the links to my blog are posted, lately they have not gone “live” immediately as in the past.  You may get an “Error 404: Page Not Found” message. If you do, please try again in an hour or two.  WordPress is having these issues, not me, & there isn’t anything I can do about them, unfortunately. I apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing any of you.

Blessings!
