Nefer’s Witchy Tips # 1: Attitude & Stirring

Are you a kitchen witch? Do you infuse your cooking with positive energy as you’re busy creating your family’s meal? If not, do you realize the simple practice of food preparation can be transformed into a very simple yet effective magical ritual that can help to manifest what you desire for yourself and your family? Read on …

I have been a kitchen witch all my life. As soon as I was old enough to stand on a chair to watch my mom cook, I began my official training. My very first lesson, which I have since passed on to my own daughter, involves stirring.

Now, you may ask, what is so special about stirring? All you’re doing is mixing the ingredients & preventing food from burning on the bottom of the pan.

Yes, that’s true, but if you have a propensity for all things witchy the simple act of stirring becomes much, much more.

When we stir – yes, we are mixing the ingredients, BUT, we are also infusing the food with our energy. Therefore, your emotional and mental attitude while cooking becomes important. How many times have you been upset about something, then you make dinner, and about halfway through suddenly everyone at the dinner table is arguing with everyone else? Think about it. I’m sure you can come up with a few examples.

That occurred because you were upset, sad, or angry while cooking and as you prepared the meal those emotions went right into it along with all the other ingredients.

Therefore, as part of  Tip # 1, a very important ingredient that should henceforth go into all you cook & bake is this:

your attitude

Keep in mind that in countless situations your attitude is everything. The same applies to cooking & baking. If you stir in love, happiness, well wishes for luck, prosperity, and so on that simple act elevates your cooking to an act of magic. It also introduces higher vibration energy into the food itself that is then consumed by you & your family. Those higher vibrations then affect your entire physical body and over time the wishes for as you’re cooking begin to manifest.

Now that I’ve covered attitude, which should always be Ingredient Number 1 while preparing food, here’s the bit about stirring that my mom taught me.

First, get a bowl of water and a spoon. Stir it. Note in which direction you are stirring. You will be stirring the water either clockwise or counterclockwise. The direction is determined by viewing the bowl as the face of a clock. Are you stirring the water moving from 12 to 3 to 6 to 9, & then up to 12? This is clockwise. Or are you stirring the water moving from 12 to 9 to 6 to 3 & then back up to 12? This is counterclockwise.

Did you know that the majority of people naturally stir in a counterclockwise direction? Did you stir in that direction?

In magical practice (here I speak from my experience with Wicca as I have been a practicing Wiccan since 1980), to stir or to walk in a counterclockwise direction is called widdershuns. Us witches stir or walk counterclockwise when we wish to banish something, to send it away, because it either no longer serves us or we simply do not wish to have that energy in our life.

When stirring food while cooking if you stir counterclockwise you are infusing the food with the energy to banish something.

The trick then becomes to train yourself to always stir in a clockwise direction (unless you wish to banish something & I’ll get to that in a minute). As you stir the food clockwise (or the mixture prior to placing it in the oven to bake), focus on those things you wish to manifest or attract into your life. It can be anything & they do not have to relate to one another.

For example, a typical list of what I focus on during food prep includes the following:

  • good health (or healing if any of us are sick)
  • prosperity (because we can all use more money)
  • love (see above for money)
  • happiness (especially these days!)

I usually keep my list to 3 – 4 things because that’s easier to focus on and you won’t forget and leave one of your wishes out. If you have trouble remembering, simply write them down ahead of time & then refer to your list as you’re preparing the meal.

There is no set number of times you need to stir. Just keep it up as you normally would while preparing the meal. The only new thing you’re adding are your intentions for yourself & your family, whatever they may be. The important thing is to remember to ALWAYS stir in a clockwise direction. You then stir from 12 to 3 to 6 to 9 & then back up to 12. If you’re used to stirring counterclockwise, this will take you a while to get used to doing, but eventually you will do it automatically.

You can also use the process of cooking & baking to banish those things from your life that you no longer desire. Illness/disease (but always consult a doctor first & be sure you’re receiving medical treatment!), disharmony among family members, worries, problems of all sorts, and so on.

In order to use the cooking & baking method for banishing, you simply change the direction of your stirring. For banishing you stir moving from 12 to 9 to 6 to 3, & back up to 12, then repeat. Focus on those things you wish to banish.

For example, a recent list of things I wished to banish read as follows:

  • misunderstandings
  • miscommunications
  • bad weather
  • arguments

Now, you can get tricky with your intentions, and by tricky I mean you can also work with the phases of the moon (more on that in a forthcoming Witchy Tip), and say it’s waning, but your family needs more money. Waning is best for banishing, not for manifesting, but a way around this is to focus on banishing the problem. So instead of focusing on attracting more money, the focus would be to banish the lack of money, as in “I banish the lack of income coming to me from my business/job/career/endeavors, etc…” When we banish the lack of something from our lives what we’re really doing is manifesting the very thing we need or desire.

For a little more on that & the power of stirring with a knife, I refer you to the most popular & widely shared post from my blog as of yet. In this post I teach you how to place your wishes into a simple cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Something as simple as that daily cup of tea or coffee in the morning can become a very magical experience. The same principles I discuss in that blog post can be easily applied to your cooking as well.

The next Witchy Tip will cover the magical & medicinal uses of the wonderful bay leaf, an herb no kitchen witch should ever be without.

If you have a topic you’d like to see me cover, let me know. I also plan to have these posts eventually cross over with my new YouTube channel so please follow my channel & tune in when I post new videos.

Wishing you many blessings!
