Deck Review: Mudras for Awakening the Energy Body

Mudras coverMudras for Awakening The Energy Body Deck + Book Set is an interesting little gem published by US Games Systems, Inc. The artwork is by Sabina Espinet & the guidebook is written by Alison DeNicola. The cards measure 4 1/4″ x 5″ so they are almost perfectly square. The guidebook is the same size and contains 112 pages of high quality semi-gloss paper with all cards depicted as a full color page. The set is housed in a high quality sturdy cardboard box that measures 4 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ x 1″. The fitted lid easily lifts off due to the box having a matte finish as opposed to glossy that some other publishers use.

mudras book coverThe cards include 7 chakra cards and 33 mudra cards for a total of 40 cards. Each chakra has its own card with its Sanskirt symbol depicted on it in the corresponding chakra color. The mudras all correspond best to particular chakras so they match their particular chakra in overall color scheme. The artwork is very soft without looking overly feminine so men would enjoy this deck as well. The mudras are illustrated very well so the viewer can see how to pose their hand in order to create that particular mudra. The corresponding text within the book explains how each mudra is to be duplicated. Each card on its reverse also has the instructions repeated, as well as the name of the mudra, the issues with which it is the most helpful, that particular mudra’s benefits, and the focus. All of the information contained on the back of each card is also included in the guidebook. In addition, the guidebook includes another section entitled “Practice” that instructs the reader as to what they should be visualizing or focusing upon as they use that particular mudra. Each card is done monochromatically so that mudras associated with the Root Chakra have their image consisting of shades of red. The Naval or Second Chakra mudra cards are depicted in shades of orange. Mudras associated with the Solar Plexus are designed in shades of yellow. Shades of green are used on the mudras associated with the Heart Chakra. Soft pastel shades of blue adorn the mudra cards associated with the Throat Chakra. Vibrant shades of purple (my favorite color) bring the mudras associated with the Crown Chakra to life.

As a reader, I primarily use card decks for divination. I rarely meditate, but when I do there are certain decks I prefer to use for meditative purposes over others. I admit to knowing nothing about mudras. I have never used them myself, but in working with this deck the past few weeks I have begun to use the mudras depicted, and I must say I have felt a difference.

This is not a deck meant to be used for divination. It is best suited for meditative purposes as well as focusing inward, and healing. I have used Mudras for Awakening the Energy Body for each of these purposes and this is what I have experienced. Bear in mind that everyone’s experience will most likely vary.

I was suffering from a sinus infection and I had gone through the 10 days of antibiotic, but was still badly congested with a totally stuffed up and very painful head. I thought, why not try to use mudras to move this energy out of my system? I looked through the deck and decided upon Card Number 30, Bhramara Mudra, aptly entitled, “Breathe,” which I badly needed to do without so much struggling!

The Focus on this card reads: “I sense and open to perfect balance and breath.” The benefits of this mudra are: “[r]elieves nasal & nasal congestion. Assists immune system. Opens & directs breath to head & sinuses.” The Bhramara Mudra is associated with the Throat Chakra, which I personally found very interesting because all sinus infections for me always begin with a sore throat.

I formed the mudra with both my hands. I am left-handed so I had a much easier time forming the mudra with my left hand, than with my right, so I was hoping with the right hand that intention would count. As I focused on the brief meditative visualization provided in the guidebook under the “Practice” section I wondered, “am I crazy or does my nose suddenly feel a little better?”

I maintained the meditation for about 2 minutes when I suddenly got the urge to start stretching my neck. As I did so I began to feel my nasal cavity slowly open up. In about another 2 minutes I was breathing easier. I was stunned, to say the least!

I kept this card with me & carefully carried it from room to room. When I had a free moment I would form the mudra again and concentrate on my sinuses opening up. It was a Friday, my GP had gone out of town for spring break & wouldn’t be back for over a week, so had no way to get my antibiotic refilled without going to the ER. Fortunately, by bedtime that night I felt so much better! I slept better because I could finally BREATHE & in the morning I woke up feeling the best I had in about 15 days. I practiced the Bhramara Mudra for 2 more days off and on. I still felt fairly miserable at times, but I could tell the congestion was clearing up. By the end of the week I felt fine and that was without additional antibiotics.

Now, I am NOT recommending you use this deck in lieu of consulting with your doctor. Do not EVER do that. I share my experience to demonstrate that a total newbie to mudras benefited from the practice, which to me proves that the practice of mudras has a true validity. Little did I ever know.

Another example pertains to my 17-year-old daughter. She suffers from anxiety and recently was hired by Walgreens all on her own without any pushing from my husband or I. We are super proud of her, but I was worried about what the added stress of working may do to her. I taught her how to do the Abhaya Mudra, entitled “Fearlessness,” which is very simple to do. The focus of this mudra is, “[m]y courage and self-assurance is unwavering.” I have her form and focus on the mudra for 2 minutes twice before she goes in to work and then I have her form the mudra and focus for two more sets of 2 minutes each before she goes to bed. So far she’s been fine and she reports that she is even sleeping better so now she forms the mudra every night before going to bed.

This deck is proving to me that mudras are very beneficial and I intend to look more into mudras reassurancethem in the future. Meanwhile, I highly recommend Mudras for Awakening the Energy Body to anyone who is interested in meditation, yoga, as well as Eastern spirituality and philosophies. You may not be able to do divinatory readings with this deck in the conventional sense, but its uses go far beyond divination.

How to Contact Your Spirit Guides: Some Initial Steps

Serapis Bey FINAL
Serapis Bey, Copyright Nefer Khepri, 2015. Spirit Guide Portraits $125 + s/h worldwide. Email me for details: IsisRaAnpu@gmail.com

I receive at least 10 emails a week from people all over the world asking me if I have any additional tips on how to contact spirit guides. I have a page at my site that is very popular and I share my method there for free. It has worked for me & for many others as well. Here is some additional information that many of you may find useful if you’re feeling stuck or if results aren’t what you had hoped they would be.

Question # 1: “Do my guides speak my language?”

It’s okay to use your native language when speaking to your guides. They know all languages through all Time. Some guides are even extraterrestrial, but since it’s one spirit communicating with another, Spirit knows no language barriers so feel free to use your native language.

Question # 2: “Do I keep my eyes opened or closed?”

It does help to keep your eyes closed, only because you are doing a method of meditation when you attempt to contact your guides; however, some people find it useful to stare at a candle flame, which is actually the technique I used. You need to keep your eyes open for that, which I did, but once I found I was slipping toward a meditative state I would then close my eyes for the remainder of the session.

Question # 3: “Should I ask for spiritual protection?”

Most definitely – YES. I’d recommend you ask your angels or your god for protection, not  your guides. Guides are spirit. They do not protect. They advise only. Angels & higher beings are those who are capable of protecting people. I always call on Archangel Michael for all of  my sessions – whether I’m talking to my guides, giving someone a card reading or creating a piece of visionary art. All of those activities connect me to Spirit & whenever you attempt to connect to Spirit proper protection is essential. Protection keeps lower entities away who can come & pretend to be spirit guides when they are nothing of the sort.

Question # 4: “How long will it take before I see any results?”

It usually takes weeks, sometimes even months, for a person to see, hear or sense anything. It took me 3 months before I could sense any presences and after that about another 2 weeks before I developed the ability to hear my spirit guides.

Question # 5: “How do spirit guides communicate with the living?”

Guides often work with symbols so look at what you’re seeing. Determine if any symbols are present during your meditation session. Then write them down.  When you come out of your meditation attempt to determine what these symbols mean to you personally. If you have no idea, then google them like so:

“symbolic meaning of a car”

“symbolic meaning of waves”

“symbolic meaning of mountains”

and so on. You can find a LOT of really excellent sites on the interpretation of symbols & that should help in determining what the symbols mean.

Also, pay closer attention to your dreams and write them down in a journal immediately upon waking. Don’t wait thinking you’ll remember what you dreamed once you’ve had your morning coffee. We often forget as much as 96% of our dream content by the time we’ve made it to that first cup in the morning. Pay attention to any symbols you receive in dreams. First attempt to determine what they mean to you; and, if that doesn’t work then use Google.

Question # 6: “How can I be able to see my spirit guides?”

This occurs when you can see with your mind, with your “inner eye,” otherwise known as the Third Eye chakra, located just above the bridge of your nose in between your eyes. It may help you to obtain a quartz crystal & place it on your third eye to help charge your third eye with extra energy. That could help in your sessions.

Question # 7: “What do I need to do to my quartz crystal so it will help open & activate my Third Eye?”

quartz crystal copyTo prepare your crystal it needs to be cleansed & programmed. It’s very simple.

To cleanse: place it in a bowl of water into which you have dissolved some table salt. Set it out under the moonlight overnight. Full moon is best, but as long as the moon is visible this will work.

Next day, rinse it off. Place it in a fresh bowl of water, NO salt. Place it out under the sun from morning to sunset.

Your crystal is now cleansed & charged. Now it’s time to program it.

A quartz crystal – unlike other stones & crystals – can be charged for up to 3 purposes. You do this by touching the crystal to your third eye and state your intention for the program. For example:

“I charge this crystal to help open my inner sight so I can see my spirit guides.”

“I charge this crystal to open my inner hearing so I can hear my spirit guides speak to me.”

“I charge this crystal to help me to understand messages from my spirit guides.”

You probably get the idea. Other crystals you can use include lapis lazuli, flourtite (the darker blue, lavender & purple shades), sugilite, & amethyst. NOTE: if you use amethyst be careful when charging out under the sun. I leave amethyst out for only an hour because sunlight can cause it to fade.

Then use your crystal for every session. If you find your crystal starting to look cloudy, discolored, or it no longer feels “right” to you, repeat the cleansing & charging process & reprogram your crystal. Then it’s ready to be used again.

Keep in mind that spirit guides were once human just like you and I (unless you end up with extraterrestrial guides, which is not beyond the realm of possibility). They have quirks and some can be real personalities. Some are chatty while others may be quiet and reserved. Get to know your spirit guides as people, because they all were once people. You can forge very strong and life-lasting spiritual friendships this way. Your spirit guides will appreciate your efforts and reward you with a lifetime of accurate and helpful guidance.

Wishing you many blessings!

The importance of color regarding balance and harmony of the human psyche and physical well-being cannot be over-stated.  Inspiring Butterflies

“Communication”

goes beyond the parameters of an oracle deck.  It has 27 cards and yes, there is also a guidebook and the cards can be used as an oracle.  However, Inspiring Butterflies is much more than this.

Also containing a 7 3/4 X 5 3/4″ spiral-bound journal filled with exercises meant to be done over 27 days at the reader’s own pace, the cards serve as a colorful tool that can bring increased balance and harmony to the hcakras if used with that intention.  As a reiki master-teacher the possibilities of Inspiring Butterflies intrigued me.

The intent behind Inspiring Butterfliesis threefold:  to serve “as a tool for insight,

“Grounded”

self development, and to connect with higher consciousness” (guidebook, p. 3).  Each butterfly card through its colors resonates with a particular chakra.  color affects us emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually.  Color acts on our subconscious and each of the seven main chakras is associated with a particular color.  The colors of each card of Inspiring Butteflies allows a channel of healing energy to be opened.  The 3 1/8 X 5 1/8″ 48-page guidebook begins with information about the general meanings of particular colors and a brief discussion of the associations of each of the seven main chakras.  The remainder of the guidebook goes into how to use these cards for healing, an interpretaioin and affirmation for each card, and concludes with meditations on several cards that correspond to the seven main chakras so there is a meditation included for each of the seven main chakras.

Inspiring Butterflies is a multi-level tool that can be used for balancing and harmonizing the chakras, healing, meditation, and as an oracle.  But wait!  There’s more!

Included with the deck and the guidebook is a spiral-bound journal meant to be used as a 27-day course working with the Inspiring Butterflies deck.  The journal has 128 pages and concludes with 7 lined pages for additional notes.  Coincidentally (or not) there are also 7 main chakras so the reader may wish to assign one page per chakra.

“Creativity”

The journal begins with a brief discussion of the 7 main chakras and their associations.  Each Inspiring Butterfly card is assigned a day (1 – 27).  Each card’s section runs 4 pages.  The first page is a full color depiction of the card, its title, and a positive phrase.  The second page begins with a discussion of the energy of that particular card.  The third page offers an exercise you can do involving the card and a writing area is provided to note your personal thoughts an d observations about the card and exercises.  The fourth page includes an assignment for that day and a positive affirmation.  Space for note taking is provided on the third and fourth pages of each card’s section of the journal.

Inspiring Butterflies comes houses in a 12 X 6 X 1 3/4″ hinged heavy duty laminated cardboard box with a hinged lid and magnetic closure.  The cards rest in a recessed well beneath the guidebook and measure 5 1/16 X 3 1/16″.  The guidebook rests on top of the cards.  In a larger recessed area rests the journal.  All together it’s a very attractive presentation of a unique product that I know readers would find to be helpful and also inspiring.  This is a beautiful set for butterfly lovers and for those of us interested in experiencing new tools of self discovery.
